It’s finally confirmed! TV Asahi is set to produce an Maison Ikkoku SP drama starring Ito Misaki, (of Densha Otoko and Kiken na Aneki fame), as Otonashi Kyoko. And yes, there will be auditions held for the character Yusaku Godai. Stories of a possible SP drama was first recognized as simply a rumor back in the summer of 2005 from a local manga magazine, however, we can now finally put all that hearsay to rest. Personally I feel like this may expand beyond just an SP. If it proves successful, it can easily be picked up to become a regular TV drama. Set to premiere in Spring ’07.
