UPDATE: Added external links to video.
This time we’ll look a bit deeper into the mechanics that make up this exciting new high-speed fighter.
So here we are again, just 2 days after briefly writing about the final version of Dream Toys Factory’s ALiBAT — short for Alice Battle. This time I’ve decided to not just reveal the unlockables the game has to offer, but instead, to actually present to you real-time footage of myself playing a few matches. So let’s start off with one of the game’s hidden secret features…
In Normal mode, you’ll find that if you zoom past all the challenges the await you, you’ll be rewarded with a new and unique character. The always delightful, Detective Kun-Kun! Much smaller in size than the rest of the cast, Kun-Kun provides the high-speed maneuver skills that is essential in quickly dashing and evading surprise attacks from your opponents. In my opinion, he is the most easiest to handle and control for light beginners. Let’s take a sharper look at what his 3D model can accomplish while under pressure from the Rozen dolls:
Now that you’ve seen Kun-Kun in action — and on top of that, the game’s closing sequence, we can move on to the next unlockable feature, this time, it’s Hell Mode. But before we even get to that, I first have to tell you about the different modes in ALiBAT, and how experience points are scored after every match.
There are 5 modes in the game: Easy, Normal, Hard, Nightmare, and Hell — Hell is only unlocked after successfully completing Arcade in Nightmare mode. There are 2 systems of leveling up you’ll need to focus on: Medium and Doll. I guess I should note that I’m not 100% sure what each system attribute does for your character, but from playing the game, I believe Medium determines your attack power and the time it takes to execute a technique (offense), while Doll contributes to your strength and endurance to dash quickly (defense). Once I do find out for sure what each does, I’ll make sure to re-edit this post. Anyway, after every successful match, you’ll be awarded a certain number of experience points. These experience points are then divided in half between the two system attributes. However, the number of experience points earned depends on which mode you are playing in. Here’s a quick list of just exactly how many EXP points are awarded for each mode.
Now that we’ve gotten the basics out of the way, let us take a look at our very own Suiseiseki in action under Nightmare mode — don’t worry, it’s a bit shorter than the Kun-Kun demo earlier.
And finally, after successful completion of Nightmare, the game will unlock Hell mode. This one is just insane! Don’t even think about trying Hell until you at least have one character at Doll Level 4 or higher. Here’s a quick demo of Barasuishou under these extreme conditions:
You see how close I was to losing that match? Almost every match in Hell is like that. So leveling up your character is extremely important. I can’t stress that enough.
After managing to get through the challenges that await you in Hell, you’ll be awarded… nothing. Seriously. There’s nothing to unlock at all — which really disappoints big time — they could’ve at least thrown in a alternate background for the main menu you know. Anyway, there’s still a matter of online compatibility, however, I’m still looking into that. The game does have a feature where one can log onto a server where they can chat with friends — and possibly challenge them online as well, but I’m sure it isn’t ready just yet. If I do find any information on this, I’ll be sure to report back.
