Gathering all sources, gathering all sources…
Moon Phase Diary reports: forget what the previous leaks had mentioned! This new Eva project will consist of 4 brand new theatrical films — where the first is scheduled to premiere next Summer 2007, tentatively titled, “Evangelion Shin Gekijou-ban” (Evangelion: The New Movie). All 4 films are said to be set in a continuous storyline. However, the content may be different from that of the original Shin Seiki Evangelion TV series. Please note, this is not a remake nor a sequel. Instead, it will be more of a re-telling production for the franchise. In other words, this new project will be more easily comprehensible to the average viewer and viewers not familiar with the original NGE TV series.
The news is obviously huge. But that’s not what really excites me. What really gets my energy going is the fact that we’ll be able to once again witness the chemistry of Megumi Ogata, Megumi Hayashibara, and Yuko Miyamura on screen. I can’t even recall how long its been since I’ve last heard Ogata on stage. Hmm… was it Samurai Deeper Kyo? I don’t know. All I do know is her acting/singing voice is beyond GODLY.

That’s cool. Neon genesis evangelion was an awesome series! Nice site btw.
Thanks for clearing that up! I read about the rumours on ANS but I was doubting the possibility of a second series. This sounds much more likely~ ^^
Oh I can’t believe I forgot to also include this other source. This seems to be collection of all Eva rumors that started some months back. Very useful, especially since they have links to 2ch discussion threads concerning the new project.
I never was that much of an Evangelion fan, partially considering my general distaste for mecha shows. This is great and unexpected news though.
Yeah but Evangelion, despite the looks of it from pictures and screen caps, wasn’t really a mecha-show, in my opinion.
Anyways, Dennis, I just want to thank you so much. You cover two of my favorite things: Disgaea, and Evangelion. :P
I’m a little concerned about it not really doing anything with the original series, though. I mean, this is just going to be a whole new outlook on the world of Evangelion? That’s what the sources make it sound like. So the story will be mostly altered, correct?…
Or do I have this all wrong? I need you to save me, Dennis. :P clear me up!
If that’s real, it’d be awesome.
Cool, gives me something more to look forward too.
They will undoubtably make it less cute and more confusing than the original… :(
We can hope for a lot of Rei(s?) I suppose :P
Will it have the same director as the tv show?
Forget about buying the dvd’s now imma wait for the Super Ultimate box set.
So like mentioned earlier, it’s neither a remake or a sequel. It’s more of a re-telling of the series — only this time it will be significantly different. How so? Well they’re basically “dumbing down” the story to make it more easily comprehensible to the average viewer. I’m not sure whether I like this idea or not — but I guess I’ll have to place judgment once the new film is released.
Retold comprehensibly or otherwise, Rei and Asuka are still hot
