A manga title that’s currently listed over at our sidebar has just been blessed with the best news possible…
FINAL UPDATE (12/29): Break out the champagne! It has been officially confirmed at C71!
According to World Hobby Fair, Hata Kenjirou’s eight+ volume series, “Hayate no Gotoku! (Hayate the Combat Butler)“, serialized in Weekly Shounen Sunday magazine, has been given the green light for a full anime conversion.
Synopsis from Baka-Updates Manga:
Hayate Ayasaki, 15, world’s fastest delivery boy. Currently working because his parents are unemployed. After his Boss finds out that he’s under the minimum age requirements, he gets fired… and his paycheck goes to his parents. To his dismay, they spent it all in the casinos, and racked up an incredible debt, which then leads to him being chased by the Yakuza, because his parents sold his organs to them. Not knowing what to do, he comes up with a plan to pay off the debt – a plan that involved kidnapping a young girl all alone in the park. After a series of events, he ends up being this girl’s butler. This is the story of a butler’s love, sweat and blood!

I’m sure a lot of people have heard about this manga, Hayate the Combat Butler, but for those who haven’t, it’s an awesome comedy with perhaps a little romance, revolving around a teenage boy (Hayate) who winds up with a massive debt which he cannot pay off. Having worked hard all his life, when he finds out the sum of the money he has to pay back, he snaps and decides to kidnap someone for ransom. However, the person he targets ends up being the daughter of a very rich family, and instead of kidnapping her, he saves her from the mafia and gets hired as her butler. Of course, the main storyline is simply of him and his butler duties, but this will expand later on. Don’t want to spoil too much anyway. There are currently 7 volumes and is still ongoing, while 4 volumes have been scanlated for us non-Japanese readers. I highly recommend this read; you will love it. And if you already do love, you will be pleased to hear, if you haven’t already, that it is getting an anime! Oops, I already mentioned it above, but just in case you missed it somehow. Hopefully the studio that does it will be relatively good, and definitely not something like the guys who did Yoake. If KyoAni does this, it will be godly! [...]

As part of a group that’s scanlating this, this is damn good news to me.

[...] Although I can’t accurately describe what Hayate the Combat Butler is about story-wise, I can say that it’s a very enjoyable comedy-slice of life-romance-drama (in that order). Yes, I made that up on a whim but that’s what I feel is the best description I can make for this manga currently. I also cannot wait until its anime adaptation arrives (originally reported by Moetron and yes, I’m very excited). So if you’re looking for a new manga to pick up or even if you’re not, do give Hayate the Combat Butler your undivided attention. Or in other words: Go read the damn manga! [...]
