Ep01 Commentary:

Nozomi Yumehara, on her way to Saint Lumiere Middle School, falls into the arms of a young man as she’s chasing a pink sparkling butterfly. The boy easily catches the insect and shows it off to her. Moments after, the young man notices that someone is lurking nearby. The butterfly gets away, as well as the boy. Nozomi’s friend Rin calls her over to hurry and board the school bus before it takes off without them. For now, Nozomi will just have to forget about the boy and make her way to class.

At Saint Lumiere, student council president Karen Minazuki makes her appearance after being dropped off by a limo. There she also greets her friend Komachi Akimoto. Once Nozomi and Rin make it, they’re both surrounded by classmates who want to recruit new members for their clubs/sports teams. Feeling a bit out-of-place, Nozomi leaves the crowd and walks on her own, only to find idol Urara Kasugano sitting on a bench reading a script. The two then introduce each other.

While in class, Rin tries to tell her friend Nozomi that she needs to soon set a path for her life, or else she’ll forever be lost — she’s just looking out for her. From there Nozomi makes her way to a window where she notices that same young boy whom she met earlier down below. She then starts to chase after him, finding herself at the school’s library. There she sees Karen and Komachi. She asks if they saw a boy come in, but unfortunately they didn’t. Nozomi was also a bit surprised to find that Karen knows her name — apparently it’s her duty to memorize the names of every student who attends Saint Lumiere.

In continuing her search for the boy, she finds a book emitting a gold-colored glow. As she picks it up, the boy runs after her asking that she give him the “Dream Collette.” But Nozomi wanted to know more about him- seems like all he was interested was that book. After failing to pull the “Dream Collette” from her hands, he turns into his “mascot” creature form. He introduces himself as Coco. Just then Girinma, a member of the evil organization “Nightmare,” appears before the two — seems what he wanted was the “Dream Collette” as well. Girinma then transforms himself into his bug form and a chase soon follows. After finally being cornered, the butterfly from earlier appears in the room and Nozomi makes it known that she’ll do anything to protect Coco’s dream. The butterfly turns into a watch on Nozumi’s wrist. There she shouts out the phrase, “Pretty Cure Metamorphose” and transforms into Cure Dream. Coco is then shocked to find that Nozomi is one of the legendary PreCure soldiers. Knowing that he’ll now need some backup, Girinma summons a monster by the name of Kowaina. As she’s being chased by it, Cure Dream, with some help from Coco, realizes that she can fight back, and so she does. However she gets caught by Girinma. Just then she calls forth her “PreCure Dream Attack” and escapes, defeating Kowaina and forcing Girinma to retreat. In the end, Coco rejoices and tells Nozomi that she’ll now have to find the other 4 members of Pretty Cure. The news did not come easy for poor Nozomi.

Love the new OP, but I’m still not too crazy about the closing theme — may just need more time I guess. As for the show itself, well, it was good but I seriously want to see how all 5 of the girls work together. So yes, I will be sticking with this show for awhile just to see which direction it goes from here on out. Hopefully it will be, if not more, entertaining than its predecessor, Splash Star.
