Ep36 Commentary:


P*I*N*K – S*P*A*T*S*U

The girls who emit the white light aura — their true identities have now been discovered by the most vile, most sinister villain that could possibly exist… who’s name strikes fear in the hearts of millions worldwide, which is why he could only be referred to as… Freeza …er Kare. He knows too much! Yet the man continues vacationing at different resorts throughout the show. But his trusty black spore powder is what keeps the girls busy while reporting back any new information they gather.

The week’s has to go down as one of the best in the series. Not only was it loosely based on the original “Octi Evil” episode, but, it included some of the most memorable scenes to date. From watching it, I’ve learned to better appreciate Ryusei Nakao’s role as the evil anime-version of Him. His performance of that character is flawless — as if he was born to play that part. But getting back to the actual episode… we see that Kare doesn’t take lightly to those who laugh and mock him — nothing but girls in swimsuits everywhere one turns! Let’s have some fun with them~ (o^-’)b

Is this the first we’ve heard Miyako refer to her toy octopus as “Octi”? There may have been a few other occasions in the past, but unfortunately I can’t recall any of them — which is why I was curious the week before if in fact her toy’s name was going to remain the same as in the original. Anyway, because of how close Miyako was to her purple doll and how she’s always carrying it around, Kare’s black spores took control of it. She ends bringing it to school with her the next morning, which later spelled trouble:

I*C*H*I*G*O – P*A*N*T*S*U

This may be a bit off-topic, but what is it with that nurse/gym teacher that disturbs me so. I mean last week, we had all the monsters from Tokyo City gather together and cause trouble for its citizens. To our surprise, there were even monsters disguised as humans — case in point. Do you suppose maybe that gym teacher is hiding a secret as well? Anyway, getting back on track here, Evil Octi has managed to make the girls fight with one another. Mojo is then contacted by Kare’s black spores and sees that now is the perfect chance to go forth with his life-long mission: plotting to take over the world. In comes the Mojo Robo — spider-legs model; the PPGZ make it to the scene, but continue their quarrel; Mojo defeats the trio easily, but are saved from certain death by the Professor and co. Mojo then finds it’s his right to be proclaimed the new mayor of Tokyo City, since no one will even make an effort to stop him. Afterwards, Evil Octi arrives to greet our newly “appointed” mayor. The girls, after waking up from their loss, are pulled right back into action. Minutes later the three witness a gigantic Octi, being controlled by Kare and his spores, sitting on top of the Mayor’s building — the Powerpuff figure out who the perpetrator is after. The three then get caught by Evil Octi’s tentacles arms; but with a tearful plea from Bubbles to have Octi remember who he was originally and why she cared for him so, the PPGZ defeat the black spores and its take-over…

Once again, love the episode, love the show even more now. But what I would really appreciate is seeing little more Kaoru/Buttercup related eps. She is, afterall, the most popular character amongst Japanese viewers — that is, according to this poll here :P
