Demashitaa! Powerpuff Girls Z – 37

Ep37 Commentary:

First half: This week Kare’s black spores target a struggling manga-ka by the name of Tetsukazu. With all the lack of support his work receives, it would be no surprise to see his artistic morale be diminished — easy prey to manipulate. While in his apartment, the black spores take over his sketchbook and with that communicates directly to Tetsukazu. The next day, Tetsukazu allows his sketch designs to come to life by following Kare’s orders. The Powerpuff Z are then called into action; finding themselves in a battle against UFOs, a daikaijuu, and what not. Since everything he summoned were easy to defeat, Kare insisted that he draw characters that were more powerful and that could actually pose as a threat to the girls. Tetsukazu however was hesitant because he didn’t want to further hurt the city or frighten its citizens — Kare though knew the right words to say. While the girls were trying to figure out the source of these strange happenings, they were greeted by 3 new challengers:

After those three were defeated, Kare demanded that he draw a supreme mortal character with no flaws whatsoever — turned out he wanted Tetsukazu to draw a perfected version of himself. After Bubbles spotted the black aura source, the girls rushed over to put an end to all this. However, Tetsukazu’s Kare sketch was already complete. All he needed to do now was to blow into his sketchbook for it to appear. But to his mistake, he called out his other manga sketches instead. The PPGZ then saved the day; took the sketchbook with them; cleansed it of any black spore remnants; and decided to return the book back to Tetsukazu — high sentimental value for any artist. Once they found Tetsukazu, they returned the book, but not without our manga-otaku (Blossom/Momoko) giving praise to his drawings :D

Second half: since the girls needed to take their primary exams, the Principal forbid them to transform while in school — so the Principal does know their true identities… interesting. The Professor understood the request and ordered the girls to leave their henshin belts there at the lab. Naturally, this decision worried the three as to who will protect Tokyo City! No need to worry as the Professor explained ;P Meanwhile, Mojo, the Amoeba Boys, and Fuzzy were up to no good as always. The Professor put Ken and Peach in charge of taking care of the lab while he was gone to help “clean up” some crime…

While all that was going on, the Gangreen Gang were after the Chemical Z solution and were already sneaking into the laboratory. Ken and Peach were not about to go down without a fight…

Meanwhile in class, Momoko, Miyako, and Kaoru were busy with their primary exams. But each time one of them looked outside the window, they could see the Professor, or should I say Utonium Z, taking on a couple of monster villains by himself — remember what the Principal said :P So what’s it going to be? The Professor, or the test? Momoko tried using the old “dochirani shiyou kana, ten no kamisama no yuutouri _______” saying — the equilivant to the western “inny minny miny mo” rhyme — to determine which one. Though Miyako instead played a game of jyanken with herself. Kaoru however played a game of “even’s and odd’s” to decide.

Once the exams were over, the girls rushed back to see if everyone was all right. Turns out the “Powerpuff Boys Z” took care of all of this week’s major monster villains — they make it look so easy. Just then a call from the Principal comes in to tell the girls that they’ll need to take the supplementary exams since they each received a failing grade. Once again, he banned all henshin activity for it. Not to worry though, as the new PPBZ will be on hand to protect the city and the innocent…

Ohoho~… so I hear next week’s episode will feature the royal maiden ヽ(´ー｀)ノ … and on top of that, it’s a two-parter! Exactly what will come of all this, you’ll just have to wait and see. But, I feel what was not known before will surely be revealed in the end…
