出ましたっ！パワパフガールズZ – 44 ｢Kaoru Loves Biceps! : Parts I & II｣

Episode 43 Commentary:

Another poorly animated episode with maybe a few funny scenes but nothing really memorable — probably one of the worst this season. However the one and only charismatic-beautician Michel made a come back — not having that many lines but still it was something. Oh and we also got to see Bubbles’ ability of being able to communicate with animals. Anyway, the girls were fooled by Kare into thinking that the Professor, Ken and Peach were all kidnapped. For their return to safety they were given a task to deliver three items to him — including a diamond from the North Pole :P Of course, the episodes ends where the boys were not in no danger at all but simply in the care of Michel.

The second half was somewhat better but not by that much. Momoko goes on about having a boyfriend that doesn’t even exist — Himeko sorta pushed her into making up the lie. By the way, I don’t know who that was exactly. Himeko was so poorly drawn that at a few instances I had to turn away from the screen — yes, it was that bad. Anyway this episode had Himeko wanting to find out the identity of this mysterious boyfriend — she even wanted her to call him using her phone. However later more people started finding out and Momoko had to keep the lie going — it eventually grew out of control. How so? Because now supposedly her “boyfriend” is an alien from outer space, hahah! In the end she had to confess to millions around the world that it was all a lie on a live telecast. Now with an uneasy crowd chasing her, she had to quickly transform into Blossom and fly into space — all in all teaching the viewer that it’s not good to tell lies. Yeah you shouldn’t hide from them either…

Episode 44 Commentary:

In the first half, Kaoru wakes up to greet her family and notices her dad Tokio sleeping on the sofa. She then gets the idea of using this opportunity to unmask him. Too bad she fails as her dad wakes up in time. Later that day, the girls are walking along and Kaoru shows them their family album. However there are no photos inside where her dad’s face is exposed. Just then Kaoru bumps into a muscular guy. Right away Kaoru is impressed by the size of his biceps. The man is named Narushima Naruo. He apologizes for knocking her down like that and offers to lift her up by having her grab onto his arm xD After he leaves, she tells Momoko and Miyako that she has fallen in love. The “love specialist” Momoko volunteers for the job of helping out Kaoru’s situation. However Kaoru would much rather get the advice from Miyako instead — not from someone who gets turned down all the time :P

At school, after doing some research, Momoko and Miyako find out for Kaoru what his full name is; that he’s single; what his favorite foods are; and what sport he loves the most — turns out to be wrestling. Next thing is to show Kaoru how to be more lady-like — Miyako will be doing the teaching here. Yeah all this will supposedly catch Narushima-senpai’s heart xD

Kaoru then shows off her new “feminine” look to the boys in the lab — they couldn’t believe it was her at first. Afterwards a date was setup next sunday between Kaoru and Narushima. They were to attend the “contra” luchador match between Tokio and “Giant Panda” — where the loser is unmasked by the winner.

Later, Kaoru’s mother explains to her the significance of that mask that her dad wears — saying that it’s part of his “manly” pride. You see, at the time Kaoru was only three years old, his dad had lost this champion wrestling match. After he took a trip to Mexico in pursuit of training and improving his skills — however it proved to be more challenging than he expected. But here is where he discovers the sport of “lucha libre” and a friend by the name of “Mask do Mexico.” How the sport works basically is like this. The older the luchador gets without being unmasked, and the more times he successfully defends his mask, the higher his status. It’s not until his retirement where he unmasks himself in public. Unfortunately his friend had lost a big match. It was then where he had handed down his mask to Tokio. Kaoru then understood why that piece her dad wears is so important to him.

At the wrestling event, Kaoru and Narushima are in the stands watching the match. However the wrestler by the name of Giant Panda was under the control of Kare and the Powerpuff Z were called into action. Kaoru ended the date and joined in to help her dad out. Once Giant Panda was knocked out, “Mask do Tokio” took over the match with a pile-driver move and won — his pride was on the line afterall. In the end, Kaoru finally got to see her dad in the way she wanted to :D
