Seven Seas Kills ‘Nymphet’
‘Not Appropriate’
…
Seven Seas Entertainment has decided not to publish its American edition of Nymphet. Seven Seas president Jason Deangelis told ICv2 that the company had decided “…it’s not appropriate for Seven Seas to publish Nymphet,” and that it would cancel its release of the manga.
…
Controversy had arisen because of Nymphet’s storyline, which featured a student’s romantic attraction to her teacher. DeAngelis initially released a statement (see “Jason DeAngelis of Seven Season Nymphet”) explaining the cultural context of the story in Japan, and why he thought the story was appropriate for North American audiences. He did, however, note that others did not necessarily share his views and that Seven Seas would explore the subject further. DeAngelis announced the change shortly thereafter.

Any bets on whether or not the anime, which airs later this year, ever gets picked up for license here…

All I can say that I hope that the former scanlator, Akatsuki, will pick this up again.
I wouldn’t call it “banned”, pKjd. Doubt Customs would try to confiscate the raws anyone brought in. Maybe you should reword that phrase to avoid confusion, lol.
True, true. If the latest Furaipan release can make it safely to my doorstep, no questions asked, then there’s really no worry :P
I would have been more surprised to see this actually get released given how many Americans view the subject, even if it is fiction that involves no actual people. The hell of releasing this would probably grind most small companies to a halt. Really though, I’m sure most retailers wouldn’t stock this, would be afraid to put it on the floor, so from a business perspective there’s little to be gained if they can’t get it into stores. I’m really surprised they didn’t forsee problems getting this to market sooner than they did.
wow are those in the pictures acutual figurines?
But I do really enjoy Kodomo no Jikan .. its quite a nice read acutally, thats why I’m so excited to wait for the anime to be shown next season
“Not appropriate” probably means that bookstores decided that they wouldn’t touch the book with a 20ft pole, lest a bunch of whiny religious types kick up a fuss (lest we forget poor Jesus). There’s no point in releasing something that’s only going to end up being available via a couple of online stores.
I figured this would happen. Can anyone honestly blame them though? No american retailer in there right mind would stock this manga.
Although I was kind of looking forward to Kodomo no Jikan, I’m glad they aren’t releasing it. This book could possibly give manga a bad name in america, causing unnecessary edits of future releases.
>>causing unnecessary edits of future releases.
Say that to the Shana novel edits.
Hmm…Too bad. I was kind of looking forward to it too. Back to waiting for a former scanlator to pick up the manga again.
Yea, what was with the Shana novel edit? Shana in her underwear is unacceptble? But VIZ left in the half naked Shana in the manga? Does that make sense to anyone?
Anyways, it comes as no suprise to me that the manga was canceled. Whats acceptable in one country can get you burned on a stake in the next one. But one thing I don’t understand is how Tsukuyomi Moon Phase made it to america and passed with a 13+ rating. Anyone ever read that manga?
Moon Phase was also edited; Elfriede’s nipples were erased during her bondage-torture scene to make it acceptable for the 13 and up rating. Volume 5 and up have been rated 16+, possibly because of the heat Tokyopop caught for censoring a manga and advertising it as uncensored.

This was expected. People in America are more sensitive about these issues…a love between a student and teacher…it is frowned upon in the U.S…
I must to go to the anime expo…so badly…
its not realy fair that they can make such a big deal when you could just find loli anime anywhere else on the internet. it doesnt make any sense because if we can find loli porn or anything of the sort then why not a soft loli manga becase im sure that the comic isnt as bad as most images that people can find.
So question its child molestationif an adult has intrest in a child but what is it fi its backwards. And tell me this why can a manga that involes say a 13 year old (junior high) and their teacher be allowed but this can’t? There is only like two years difference. I understand not wanting to put it int he market but what if it was to be marketed as a 18+ item? That would be ok.
Although a lot might want this manga/ anime for me even trying to import this would land me in minimum 5 years jail time. Canada’s laws for “child porno” consists of real girls and fake girls having sex or leading to possible sex.
On a second note I have been trying VERY hard to get the rin-chan life size figure. Only for Japan.
