Nippon Ichi fans now have a reason to purchase a PS3 this holiday season…
At the Sony Playstation Premier event in Tokyo today, it was announced that “Makai Senki Disgaea 3” will be available this winter for the Playstation 3. This leap to the next gen for the series is a first but judging from the screenshots and the sprites used, not much of a difference can be seen — unless these are from the supposed PSP-cancelled version, which would explain a lot.
Continuing it’s SRPG tradition, it seems like this new sequel will much please long-time fans — the school setting has me very curious as to what the plot line may be this time around, and who the identities of the leading characters will be. In the screens you see a menu giving you the option to change your seat, go to your home room, or take part in ceremonies for graduation and entrance.
The game is expected to be released for the PS3 in Japan this winter — can’t wait to preorder! No word yet on an international release — but much like Disgaea 2, it may not be available until Summer ‘08.

“This leap to the next gen for the series is a first but judging from the screenshots and the sprites used, not much of a difference can be seen.” — exactly. :\
Take a look through the Disgaea community (if you haven’t already), and see what everyone is saying about it.
Whoops. Link
What’s a Power Ranger doing there?
Curses and maladictions, I was sure they would make the third one multi platform.
Just so everyone knows, these screenshots are from the canceled PSP version, so withhold your judgment from the PS3 game until we see some actual footage of it.

Where exactly did you hear that? These screens are definately for the PS3 version, assuming a PSP version was in the works (first I’ve heard of either). The fact they’re in HD, and the fact the text in one of the two screens would be unreadable on the PSPs screen only serves to strengthen that thought.
One could hope they’re just early renditions, but if I were them, I’d not have shown screens which featured such stark contrasts between background and character sprites. Simply HDing the main characters sprite would have at least shown a representation of what they hope to achieve.
Personally, I hope it comes to Wii. If Disgaea DS does become a reality, maybe even DS versions of Disgaea 2 and 3 in future.
Disgaea DS would be wondeful. N1 recently officially announced a license agreement for the Nintendo DS, so who knows what will happen? :) Maybe a new game for the DS.
“Just so everyone knows, these screenshots are from the canceled PSP version, so withhold your judgment from the PS3 game until we see some actual footage of it.” — I don’t think you’re right. These are the beginning (first) screenshots of Disgaea 3 for the PS3. Where did you hear that?
There is a Disgaea PSP, but that’s just the first Disgaea with added content. I don’t think there was ever thoughts of Disgaea 3 on PSP.
PS3?
Why, Nippon Ichi, why?
…why?
Well, all I know is that they are making 7 new games, 1 is for ds, and 1 is a US exclusive, and Soul Nomad comes out August (woo).
The DS one they’re working on is probably the rumoured Disgaea DS all right (Hopefully). When mentioned in an interview (whether Disgaea would head to DS or not), the answer was “You can look forward to it”. Group that with the recent Disgaea poll on NISA’s website (http://nisamerica.com/disgaeahandheld/index.php), and it’s a big possibility.
Thanks Jonneh for confirming there wasn’t a Disgaea 3 PSP in the works (Well, to your knowledge and mine).
Nippon Ichi had better make the graphics pretty damn awesome if they really have to make the new game for PS3 instead of PS2. Sigh… Guess I just have to get that PS3 eventually. Then again, while Disgaea 2 was a fun game, the original had superior story and characters. If the third installment doesn’t seem to have any better story or any major changes or new features, I probably won’t buy a new console just to play virtually the same game for third time. But if I do buy PS3, no way I’d miss this game.
Why does the graphics look like they’re made for PS1? Or is that a trademark for Disgaea series? I remembered somewhere someone saying Disgaea not utilizing PS2’s potential to the best…
Ya you can say its there trademark, they like using old school sprites looks. I think its cute really, but then its a hit or miss kinda thing for players XD they either love or dont like it. I dont mind the sprites but i do wish it wasnt on ps3 :( eventually one day i will have it lol
