On “Super Bros. DOJO!!” today, Masahiro Sakurai revealed the next new character playable on the Wii’s “Super Smash Bros. Brawl” fighting game due December 3rd for the US. Although other new characters were announced in the past weeks, I felt this latest update was too unbelievable to ignore…

Never did I think that I’d see the day a Pokemon trainer would appear in a SSB game, let alone one that allows you to directly take control of a pokemon he/she summons. This is the case here however, and Sakurai is awesome beyond words for letting fans have such a thrill.

You play as the “FRLG” trainer — any chance to play as the female one? From there you can send out three 1st generation pokemon of your choice — Squirtle (Zenigame), Ivysaur (Fushigisou), or Charizard (Lizardon) — hope they retain their original calls when switching to the Japanese audio track. The trainer moves into the background after and lets his guys take action on the battlefield. (This definitely has to be the strangest fighting-style we’ve witnessed yet in the series.)
The “Down Special” move allows you to swap Pokemon in a set order:

This is done because of “stamina” reasons — which seems to go down with constant use of the same pokemon — makes sense. Also they all share the same Damage Meter as well so you cannot switch to reduce your damage.
