Yahoo Japan President and CEO Masahiro Inoue and eBay International President Lorrie Norrington shake hands after announcing their tie-up in online auction market in Tokyo Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007.
So today Yahoo! Japan and eBay announced that the two companies would link up their services in 2008. This in turn will allow American bidders easier access to Japanese auctions, and vice versa.
Starting in March next year, Japanese consumers will be able to directly bid on international eBay items within Yahoo Auction Japan. And sometime in the middle of ’08, similarly, a site will be set up that will allow Americans to bid and buy Yahoo Japan auction items through the eBay site. Thus eBay will be your one and only proxy service for Yahoo! Japan.
Today the two companies have already launched the website Sekaimon (“gateway to the world”) that translates international eBay auctions into Japanese in order to help Japanese speakers deal with payment and shipping.

Sweet! Easier ways to get stuff. Can’t wait to try it out.
This is freaking awesome.
By the way – i saw your youtube pangya video up there – where the hell did yo get i t? I play Pangya and I never saw any of those anime cosplay outfits!! Is this from the korean version or did someone manipulate this or something. I must know!
Actually this has been on for awhile. And from what I’ve heard, Yahoo Auction has also pulled out of America.
@Hinano: Yeah it’s a mod that someone on nico made. Not sure if it’s available online but you never know — I had enough trouble looking for this one GTA mod anyway, so I’ll just sit this one out and hope someone else finds it :P
Thing is this service probably won’t solve much at all. Most items offered on Y!AJ are regionally limited to bidders in Japan. If the service for the Japanese will only include sellers that are willing to ship worldwide, that’s only a reason more to believe eBay users will be able to bid on Y!AJ items with international availability only as well. I don’t think eBay wants to become a bypass service, but strictly a translation and handling proxy service. For all the goodies I’ve ever taken an interest on Y!AJ I’ve only met one seller willing to ship items internationally (and even that one wanted to communicate in Japanese only).
I agree what about the sellers who will not ship internationally that is one of the things that allowed the deputy services had on there side.
Not to mention this service doesn’t do any bundling. Shipping a lot of little items is a huge overhead.
