We now know 3 of the 5 Nippon Ichi Software games that are being released for the Nintendo DS handheld console – and they all happen to be remakes…
The new SRPG Disgaea game is in fact a DS port of the first installment in the franchise, released originally for the PS2 (2003) and PSP (2006) — only making the experience a bit fresh with the use of the stylus pen and dual-screen. No word on voice-over yet. It’s expected to be released in the second quarter of 2008.
[UPDATE 03/19/08] – *Full voice-over support is now confirmed.
According to the 2ch scans from above, the puzzle game Jigsaw World (1995) is also being remade but as an adventure puzzle game entitled, “Jigsaw World ~Dai gekitou! Jig-Battle Heroes~,” for the DS console.
According to this post from Syobo Online, the musical RPG The Puppet Princess of Marl Kingdom a.k.a “Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure” (1998), will also be seeing a Nintendo DS port in the near future.

Yay for a rhapsody port! the original was so fun and charming~ I wonder what kind of extras they’ll add if any… Maybe if this does well we can expect little princess or angels present?
I’m a bit disappointed to hear the Disgaea game is a port though… I already own it on PS2 and PSP… I won’t be buying another version of the same game unless theres something new this time around (flonne mode plz?)
Since I’ve phased out my PS2 and dont have a PSP, I’m excited to be able to try this game on DS if it does come out!
Not even Sony’s corporate espionage could stop the righteous fury of mankind.
I just bought Afternoon of Darkness for PSP about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I don’t own a PSP but have been borrowing my brother’s…now there’s a DS one? :( If only I had held out for a couple more weeks…man. And nothing is even new in it besides techy DS features like the stylus and double screens?
Yet, somehow, I’m still kind of happy, because it’s Disgaea. :)
I hope that the DS version has the extra Afternoon of Darkness content, since I’m never getting a PSP.
Quite disappointed to hear tat disgaea will be a remake
but still hope its a fresh new game with new modes yea ?
Marl Kingdom will be cool, although it already works really well on CFW PSPs.
I still want Disgaea but I’ll check the others.
An update to this story: Disgaea DS full voice-over support is now confirmed.
