The story is awesome, and the graphics was good too, but is outdated by now. There was a good OAV remake in the '90's. The story is oldfashoned as well. AniDB has a synopsis but it's not entierly correct: http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=1561 Doctor Azuma created a new series of Robots to take remedy of the Environmental pollution created by mankind. Irony is that wiping out mankind itself as the cause of Earth pollution, is the best solution the newborn AI Braiking thinks about :S So it started a war between mankind and the robots. When all seems to be lost Azuma comes out with his new invention: Casshern, a nice cybernetic prototype that combines a robot with a real human being. The problem is: who do we sacrifice to operate such Casshern? As the robots find out Dr Azuma's whereabouts, and prepare to strike, Tetsuya, Dr Azuma's son, happily throws away his life merging with Casshern. The new defender of humanity was born :) Now i've always wanted such classical series to be somehow renewed and projected into the new centuty with flashing graphics and old fashoned plot, but i'm rather disillused now. Examples like Gaiking, Jeeg or Yatterman where old series were resurrected as remake or sequel are all failures. The very same Casshern story was horribly raped by that awful crap movie they made. The situation is different, people is different nowadays. Series that were a must 40 years ago are terribly outdated by now. It's not only a matter of graphics. It's nowadays publuc that is no more suited for an old style show. So said i'm very afraid this new Casshern will only be a bad caricature of himself. I really want to be proved wrong. Really ...
