Alright, the sixth installment in the Pretty Cure metaseries officially began last weekend. As I normally do for certain anime that is about to air on TV, I hang around 2chan waiting for those juicy screencaps to be uploaded online, satisfy my hunger for something new, and at the same time attempt to read whatever hilarious commentary that community provides. The first thing I noticed is exactly what the trailers showed previously; and that is Toei’s rather low production value when compared to last season’s GoGo series. (Which by the way had an okay ending, however Milky Rose could’ve had a bit more screentime in my opinion.) Anyway, before the RAW was even available on Share, the OP and ED was uploaded on youtube. Checked it out and I couldn’t believe just how strange the lyrics/vocals were for the opening. Just how many times can you say the word “fresh” in a song? I was afraid that it was going to get real annoying the more times I heard it. But what do you know. After hearing the song for a few days now, I can honestly say that it’s slowly starting to grow on me. Maybe it’s because I’ve always liked the music from hearing it in the trailers. The lyrics/vocals just took me by surprise I guess.

The ED is another story. I absolutely loved it! The FPC girls, a choreographed dance routine, CG animation, disco setting, catchy up-beat song… c’mon now, what is there not to like? Sure the visuals may remind some of a certain ending to another show. But it’s still different. It’s a “fresh” Pretty Cure style! It surely beats the OP by far.

As for characters introduced in episode 1, many of them were interesting. Love for instance came off as a very caring person in her debut. She helped support her friend who wanted to confess to her senpai. She also came to the aid of Miyuki of Trinity. Her outgoing personality, Cure Peach character design, henshin sequence, and awesome fighting skills was enough to receive my pick for favorite character so far in the show. (In Y!PC5 it was Komachi. In GoGo it was Kurumi/Milky Rose. In SS it was Michiru and Kaoru. In the original it was Honoka all the way.) It may be too early to choose a fav, but I have a feeling I’m going to be sticking with Love as my first choice. Love Sunshine just needs to be a bit more flashier! And what’s with all the clapping she does?

Episode 2 should be fun. Can’t wait for the next henshin sequence~!
