Haruhi Second Airing Consist of 28 Episodes – (Confirmed)

The second airing of 「The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya」, which began broadcast yesterday, has been confirmed to have a 28-episode run. This is according to Gigazine who have received their info straight from the source (Teletama). However the station itself does not know, at this time, when the other 14 episodes will air.
In addition, Sun TV’s programming table has the character (新) “new” written next to 「The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya」; whereas 「Spice and Wolf」 has (再) “re-, repeat” written by it.
[UPDATE 04.03.2009] — J-CAST have also received the same 28-episode run confirmation from Teletama.

What a dumb way to start a second season with such an extremely large fanbase. Just do it the standard way with the fullpage announcment.
with all the negative publicity prior, i somehow can’t get excited with the fact there is indeed going to be new haruhi episodes.
the way they kept fans guessing if the airing is going to be a re-run is like the worst possible marketing strategy ever.
if they were going to show the old eps alongside the new ones they should have dammed just announce it.
I think they like the mystery around Haruhi. They play with it a lot.
Hope is all we have.

Haruhi decides herself, if she is on TV or not. So I think the broadcast can´t be decided by the senders :P
They did a good job in KILLING MY ANTICIPATION AND EXPECTATIONS, so it won’t be too hard to meet them. Or will it? Honestly, I can’t see how or why people would still care. First season was back in 06. FREAKING 06.
Ah, another time for us to get our hopes out…
But that took long enough for the confirmation…At least we KNOW for sure that they’ll have a 2nd season!!

Well, I figured they would have a second season sometime. It was just a matter of time. Same with volume 10 of the novels…
But regardless, I’m actually happy and excited…! As some people are saying, the reruns could possibly be mixed with the new episodes, for the sake of, again, going with the novels’ plots. Now that would be cool…! I hope they put the mansion story from the… 5th book…? Maybe… I hope it’s in this season, though… It’d probably be another two-episode thing, considering how long it was… which is fine by me~!
Despite many others losing hope for the anime, I’ve still got plenty of faith and I’ll follow this series ’til the end…! Even if it ends up being another super-long-out-of-hand series that never ends…

I have a feeling that it will be 1st season with 10 minute episodes. Hope I’m wrong.

Broadcasters will be showing the entire series once in air-order and then once more in chronological/novel/correct-order, to arrive at a total of 28 episodes.
If the re-airing of Haruhi was actually an entirely new second season, 28 episodes is rather peculiar when the norm is between 24-26 episodes. The only other explanation is the ‘new season’ consists of the 14 episode first season and a new 14 episode second season. Which, from my experience, is almost unheard of.
Aside from that, maybe the new season should cover “The Confusion of Haruhi Suzumiya”, because no one really know what the balls is going on.
This is FMA II all over again. :<

I believe it is going to air the first 14 episode again before it shows the new episodes. I watched the raw and it wasn’t an entirely new series like FMA. :3

Exactly. Because this is HARUHI we are talking about. This it to keep the motif of what the core of TMoHS is: uniqueness and lots of deception/confusion.
