Anyone following Japan’s tastes should have known big boobs will win this year.

While I am a bit disappointed that none of my fav characters from “Dog Days” made it to the elite 8, I am OK with this.  Congrats to Mami I say.  To all those who were upset that PMMM dominated the last few rounds too much, unless some miracle occurs we probably will never see Madoka in Saimoe again.  It wrapped up nicely and there doesn’t appear to be room for a sequel or anything, so I say let them enjoy their brief time in the spotlight.  What’s that old saying from the movie “Bladrunner”?  “The star that burns twice as bright burns half as long”.  And PMMM burns so very very brightly.

Congratulations to Mami Tomoe as the new Saimoe champion!  As Azu-nyan passes the Saimoe flag to Mami, the rest of the Puellae Magi thank the voters for the victory for their series in what is very likely their only eligible appearance.
Mami’s wish in the series was to never be alone again.  Kind of ironic that she now stands alone atop the Saimoe bracket as the tenth winner of the tournament’s history.  I guess Kyuubey’s contracts do have a loophole after all, even though there has to be quite a long and arduous ordeal to find it.  This also means we don’t have to see the guillotine rear its ominous appearance either.  By the way, this victory also represents the shortest screentime for a champion (Mami appeared for only five or six episodes total).
The losses of Homura, Shana, and Anaru in Round 1 have to be the most surprising results for this year, though the scandal that affected round 4 (Biribiri and Tenshi’s losses) may be a lasting image as well.
As a result of the Puellae Magi’s victory, we will be guaranteed to have a new champion next year, and it’s the invasion of the veterans in what looks to be the closest resemblance to an all-star mode.  All of the Kugimiya generals are back—this will be the first and only time that all four generals will be in the same Saimoe.  Of course, the rest of teams Shana, Hayate, Zero, and Toradora will join them.  The pilots of Eva should be back with their movie.  Teams K-On and Negima will enter their final year with their movies (although their influence in the tournament will most likely be nearly nonexistant).  The Idols of 765 Pro make a triumphant return from the depths of Xenoglossia despair in 2007-2008.  The entries of the Nasuverse will be reunited (although by 2010 standards they’re on the weak side).  Wagnaria’s waitresses will serve another run for the title.  The movie for Index will see everyone except Saten-san back, unless the science and magic halves are both covered.  The squid would love to improve on her performance this year.  Teams Dog Days, Ghostory, Hidamari, Milky Holmes, Minami-ke, and Nichijou will also return.  The upcoming Strike Witches movie may include more candidates from other countries looking to join the fray.  Look for more of your favorites as the seasons continue.
But as per tradition, the giant Saimoe banner is lowered and carried off by eight characters from eight new, different series of the upcoming fiscal year.  These eight from the new shows revealed so far are who I predict could make the most noise among the all-star festivities:
Himari (Mawaru Penguin Drum)-Pingroup can be a partial sponsor of next year’s bracket.  Just make sure that penguins do not overrun the proceedings.  (Penguin 3 also appears with her.)
Hibino (Kamisama Dolls)-Big breasts aside, she is the childhood friend of the main character in her show.  May not necessarily make her real strong though.
Yune (Ikoku Meiro no Croisee)-Probably the biggest favorite among strong individual competitors (equivalent to Ika this year), and my pick to go the farthest among the new candidates for next year.
P-01s (Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon)-The gynoid of the Blue Thunder bakery from a “light” novel collection is essentially a truly robotic Yuki Nagato.  (Why quoted?  Look at the size of the light novels…)
Fear (C Cubed)-She should curse all haters, and in the process break out of the curse of the cube.  A tsundereish pettanko, but justified due to the curse.
Sonya (Kill Me Baby)-As an assassin, she seems to already have what it takes to crash next year’s bracket.  If the rumors that she’s voiced by Kugimiya are true, look out.
Yozora (Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai)-She and her imaginary “Tomo-chan” can hopefully make friends with the fans somehow, outside their Neighbors Club.
…Wait, that’s only seven candidates.  Who am I missing?  Oh right, there’s a red-haired girl there carrying the banner too.  It says here that she’s part of an Amusement Club.  What’s her name?

If Kobato were to be the main heroine instead of Sena or Yozora…
It’s unfortunate but I think she probably won’t be able to make much progress in the next tournament.
And anime can’t really make itself stand out when there are ones like F/Zero or Persona.
But seeing where Mami stands now I guess you can never be sure of anything.
I will vote for her if I can though.
