the story is created by the same person who wrote Bakemonogatri and Nisemonogatari, that’s why Gainax has faith on its success.

It’s called Source Material.

Animes with good background material have a better shot at getting another season ordered, especially when the future plot is known to only get more epic.
Producers don’t know what to expect from animes that go off nothing, so they have less confidence in it.

But from what I see, crap anime like queen blade and something similar always get a second season and the one that have a deep plot and characters never get any even though the source material are enough. If you ask me as long as there are a lot of boobs and ecchi, the chance for that anime getting a second season is high.

Boobs and ecchi content being fair game.

Alls fair in love, war, and pleasing the masses.

Listen, if you don’t like that the ‘deep plot and characters’ animes don’t get a second season, complain to the companies that considered it in the first place, or the artists for not allowing them to do it. That said, what do you dictate to be ‘popular’? If the source material happens to have a lot of ‘boobs and ecchi’, then it happens to have a lot of ‘boobs and ecchi’. As we’ve learned from Highschool of the Dead, apparently there’s a limit to how much is allowed (who knew?), so safe to say as long as the artist lets one character have a bust that will get guys’ attention and somebody has an attitude that reels in girls, it will be ‘popular’. There is correlation.

I find this manga to be amazing, I’m a full on fan of it and I think the reason people don’t also “get” why it get’s a second season is that they don’t come to grips with the fact that the manga has increidbly detailed   story arcs that (in my own opinion) could rival naruto (Minus for the lose! (win)
